Custodian Ray McTizic working during Lunch at Buena Vista
You may have noticed them after games at the gym or stadium, while walking to class, or even while eating your lunch—but you most definitely have noticed them. Relentlessly roaming the halls and keeping everything neat and tidy, these are our school custodians.
Many people may have heard the word “custodian” and understood the idea, but what exactly does it mean? A custodian is someone who has responsibility for or looks after something—in this case, Buena Vista. After lunch, after games, and after school, our custodians work hard. “We move nonstop, help teachers when they call us, we’re all over the building, you know, helping maintain the building,” said Mike Garrity.
Although custodians dedicate themselves to cleaning, they also enjoy connecting with students. Bonding with kids is part of what they do. “The good thing about being a custodian would be that I meet kids, get to know them, and watch them grow,” said Ray Mctizic wholeheartedly.
The next time you spot these hardworking heroes, make sure to say hello and let them know that their efforts and presence are appreciated.
