Bison Theater performs "Radium Girls"
After watching a rehearsal for Buena Vista’s eleventh play ever — and the first of the school year — I have nothing but praise for the cast and crew. Radium Girls is based on true events from the 1920s, when young women working as dial painters used radium-based paint that later proved to be deadly. While their employers tried to hide the truth, these women fought to expose the injustice and hold those responsible accountable.
The BVHS students brought this powerful story to life with emotion and precision. Their performances made me feel as though I was witnessing the characters’ struggles firsthand. The lighting and music cues were perfectly timed, and the quick costume and scene changes were impressive to watch.
“I was especially proud of the way the kids have emotionally tapped into the things they’re playing,” said Carey Harder, who directed the production.
Up next, the theatre department will begin work on their one-act play, The Absolutely True Story (As Told by a Bunch of Liars), set to debut in just two weeks.
