Last year, many students were ticked off to find out that they couldn’t bring their costumes to school on Halloween yet another year. Ever since Buena Vista High School has opened, students haven’t been allowed to get festive and bring their costumes to school on Halloween day. Though you’d be quick to protest against the rules, I realized that there has to be a good reason why these rules apply.
Initially, some students saw the rule as unfair. However, after speaking with Principal Dr. Carr, the reason became clearer. Imagine sitting in class for this. Your supplies are out and you’re ready to learn when suddenly this giant inflatable T-Rex walks in and sits in front of you. These costumes can be disruptive.
“They also make it difficult to identify students, and have no school-related purpose like spirit week for homecoming,” said Dr. Carr. However, all hope is not lost. In compensation for not being able to bring our costumes to school, Buena Vista’s hosting its first ever Trunk or Treat on October 30th at 5:30-7:30 p.m. taking place at the parking lot. So go ahead and put your masks and makeup on for Buena Vista’s first ever trunk or treat, because it definitely sounds promising.
