Orchestra band soars above the rest at districts

On April 18th, students from the orchestra band traveled to Elkhorn South to perform for the 2024 district concert. As one of the last concerts of the year, our orchestra ensured they gave it their all, preparing to end the year on a strong note.

“I personally think we all did really well that day because we all tried our best, and everything sounded good and in tune,” reflected Maya Shaffer, a viola player for the orchestra.

These students put in immense effort to prepare for this concert, and their hard work paid off when they received an almost perfect score. However, achieving such a good score required dedication and commitment to preparation.

An essential aspect of concert preparation was listening to the pieces they were performing and seeking advice from both peers and teachers, as explained by Abygail Hernandez. She also emphasized the importance of practicing the music they were planning to perform to ensure they sounded their best compared to other schools.

Everyone worked extremely hard for the concert, but Hernandez felt that their bass player stood out the most.

“He really had everything down, and he sounded amazing. He practiced a lot more, and it really stood out,” Hernandez noted.

As the only bass player in the orchestra this year, his performance was noticed by everyone, and he ensured he didn’t disappoint.

“It really gives us more insight into how we can do better and improve on what we need to,” concluded Shaffer.

Overall, this concert was significant for the orchestra, both in terms of performance and the opportunity to identify areas for improvement.
