On the night before Halloween, students and their families dressed up and gathered in the Buena Vista parking lot for the trunk or treat organized by Ms Lopez, Mrs Barnhill, and Mrs Stowe. Being the first-ever trunk or treat at Buena Vista, one could say it went well. With colorful, themed trunks aligned in the lot, students and friends walked through in awe at the displays designed by various clubs.
Along with receiving candy, students also received a ticket to vote for the trunk they thought looked best. Though people thought they had enough candy to give out, they were proven wrong later in the night. A baffling number of people showed up with hands holding out their buckets, just waiting to be filled with candy.
“It’s important that we do stuff like this because, being a new school, we struggled at first with a lot of culture being built for students and just feeling like an overall family,” said Bri Ixta Perez, a senior at Buena Vista. “The culture’s definitely grown with events like this. We not only bring students together but also families, and I think it’s a great community to have.”
On the topic of culture, the Omaha Latino Fire Association decided to join in on the fun and help hand out candy, enriching the warm and memorable experience students had at the trunk or treat.
