If schools truly want to inspire excellence, they must reward it boldly, because recognition turns ordinary students into role models. At Buena Vista High School, students work hard in classes, activities, and sports to represent the Bison with pride. The school promotes respect, growth, and positivity while helping students succeed in a learning environment. However, the school’s reward system, including Bison Bucks, is not used often enough. To truly motivate students to strive for excellence, teachers and staff should give out more Bison Bucks to recognize positive behavior and hard work.
Reward systems can help students stay motivated and focused in school. Mary Dean from HMH states, “Classroom reward systems can increase student motivation to complete assignments and participate in class.” This shows that rewarding good behavior can improve academic success and create a better school culture. When students receive rewards like Bison Bucks for helping others, participating in class, or showing school spirit, they are more likely to repeat those actions. These small rewards can encourage responsibility, respect, and pride among students. If teachers and staff handed out Bison Bucks more often, it could inspire more students at Buena Vista to work harder and do their best every day.
Some people may argue that students should work hard without expecting rewards. They believe that learning itself should be the main motivation for students. While this idea makes sense, recognition can still play an important role in helping students feel valued. When schools celebrate effort and positive behavior, it encourages others to follow those examples. By giving out more Bison Bucks, Buena Vista High School can motivate students, strengthen school spirit, and help more Bison strive for excellence.
