On the coldest day of the year, the court was heated. The Buena Vista Bison faced off against the Westview Wolverines in a tough battle Tuesday, Jan. 23. The Bison went back and forth with the Wolverines in the first quarter, even leading the game by five. The Bison fell in the second half, leading to their 11th loss of the season.
Although the boys lost this one, they put up a strong fight early on. Junior guard Onyx Bell said, “For the first half, we were fighting hard. We came back, but then things started to fall apart. We became lackadaisical on defense, but this is a learning moment for sure. We are not done this season.”
As the second half began, the team knew they would have to make a comeback. Sophomore point guard Boston Baxter said, “In the third quarter, the team lost touch with the goal, which was to win. We forgot how to play team basketball, leading to our loss. We will learn from this and focus on the next game.”
Success from the year before is hard to come by, but the team continues to battle and build a program that can be counted on. The Bison team is young, and each game is a growing opportunity, with much promise for the future.
