After taking three whole seasons to win a game, the Bison started their fourth season with a victory, defeating Bryan on Tuesday, September 2, at Bryan High School.
Bryan started strong, winning the first set of the match. But the Bison fought back with a vengeance, taking the next three sets to secure the milestone victory. Led by their seniors’ dedication, effort, and determination, the win for Buena Vista felt inevitable.
Team captain Lissette Esteban said the victory was the result of persistence. “It took a lot of hard work, and we were all excited and proud of ourselves because of the amount of time and effort we put in to win one game—the first game of our season.”
Head coach Mr. Hall credited the team’s perseverance. “With our volleyball program, we have three defining traits we focus on: sportsmanship, excellence, and tenacity,” he said. “That first set we were a little unprepared, still warming up, but the girls understood you’re not going to win every single set. They came in with the mentality that even though we lost the first one, we were going to win the next. They had the dedication, drive, and determination—not to give up, but to keep striving and pushing.”
It may have taken three years to earn a win, but the Bison never stopped trying and never stopped believing.
